CatherineG Utopia

My Utopian society is named Upendi. Bonus points if you know where the name comes from.

THE DECLARATION OF INDEPENDENCE FOR UPENDI.

The reason why this society was formed is simple. It is built on the foundation that all people are born equal and free, and that no one body of people can say otherwise. Everyone has a job, everyone has a steady paycheck. Everyone has a house, with electricity and running water. Every child goes to school and graduates from high school. They all have the same opportunities available for them. No one has to go hungry (due to the genetic alteration of koi) or without clothing.

By law, you must recycle. For every tree cut down, two are put in it's place. Again, due to the koi, large fishing industries are no longer needed, which is allowing the near endangered fish to replenish and the coral reef to begin restoring itself. Wind power, water power, and lightning are all harnessed for energy, creating a more clean energy system.

It was the need for equality and a more environmentally population that Upendi was created. The people here are equal and have no worries. Not about jobs, family, or the environment. Everything is perfect.

The motto for Upendi is: So divine that you lose your mind.

The seal for Upendi: A passion fruit and a palm leaf.

The national animal for Upendi is the elephant. Elephants have a very strong sense of self and family, something that seems to be lost on today's society. When a child is born, every member of the herd takes care of it, not just its mother, which is something else we can learn from elephants.

Rules in Upendi
1. Killing people is illegal
2. Animals abuse is illegal
3. Environmental conservation is a major priority
4. Everyone works, society flourishes.

The government for Upendi will consist of a Congress, a President, and a Supreme Court.

Dear Kam,
I am sure you have heard of the creation of the latest Utopia, Upendi. You should definitely consider moving here. It's pretty much the perfect place to live. We got together for a big meeting and came to a unanimous decision that we are all rather fond of breathing, and so we don't cut down trees anymore. In a similar meeting, we decided to stop industrial fishing in our oceans for a while. Animals now have the same rights as humans, so they have the capability of suing any human who mistreats them. Plus people here take care of each other more than in the real world. So think about it, and come for a visit.

Journal Entry #1
Today wasn't really anything that extraordinary. Woke up around seven, got to school by eight. For lunch, we went to get subs instead of pizza, so that was a change. After school, had a few clubs and had to make up a test. Was home around six, and walked the dog around the park. Had dinner with my family, watched a bit of television, and surfed the net. Went to sleep around 10:30.

Journal Entry #2
Just dropped off the baby at the day care, and I'm off to work. Prom is later this evening, and I have a lot of hair appointments. The salon was filled with girls all excited, either about how this was going to be their first or last prom. Picked up Matt at three fifteen and drove him over to soccer practice. Made dinner, spaghetti and meatballs, around six o'clock. Tucked all the kids in for bed at eight thirty and read til it was time for bed.

Journal Entry #3
Woke up at six and got to the lab by seven. Several reports have come out about the dead koi floating at the top of the ocean. We don't know why they are dying, but they are starting to. We have several blood samples of the freshly dead ones coming in. Hopefully we can get everything sorted out before the media informs everyone. We can only pay them off to hold the story for so long.... With a lead about how our plans to destroy world hunger, and our mains source of food keeps dying, people will be scared, which isn't good for any government. Looks like I'll be here for a while....
